It may be true that there are more powerful options, but the Perlux is easy and works. I read lots of sites and discussion boards and finally just bought the low cost option that everyone said worked fine.
My 71 142E is bone stock, except for the electronic ignition. I fly down the turnpike into Boston with all of the other maniacs. It has solid, smooth power all the way to the 5500. It NEVER responded like this with the worn out points/condenser system. Not even close. I can totally outrun my wife in the 940, and suprise the hell out of a lot of commuters.
Since my speedo is broken and I have the GT dash, I have not had time to fix it.
I would be scared to find out what 4800 rpm while in OD is in MPH. I hit it last summer....
These are the best cars in the world, period.
