Automatic Trans Electric Gremlins 200 1987

Your auto transmission has a solenoid that is located on the transmission, driver side, near the top. If it is working, you will hear a "click" when power is applied to the solenoid. They are fairly easy to get off, just that you will get quite greasy doing so. Other problems that might cause it not to shift would be the wire going to the solenoid has broken somewhere. It's either the relay which is located behind the glove box or the solenoid on the transmission. Since you are able to see the light go on and off while pressing the button on the shifter leads me to believe that it's the solenoid or wire going to it. When pressing the button, you should also hear a click from the relay along with seeing the light go on and off. Hopefully it's just a bad wire and you won't have to pay the cost of a new or aftermarket solenoid ($125-250.00)
