Well, I hope I'm not misleading you. That's an 85's diagram. It is the same way my 89 is wired. I've repaired my 89 which had the same trouble mudduck reports, identical right to the blown trace on the relay circuit board when the wire shorted, but everyone seems to remember the solenoid being engerized to give you 4th gear instead of lock it out, as I understand it. I don't think they changed anything just for the 87 year...
