New Engine? What Would You Do?

well, today i'm installing an amm and o2 sensor. the fuel filter was changed 30k ago, so i don't think that's it. after getting it back from the mech. last week the "check engine" light was still on, so i disconnected the battery for a minute. after reconnecting it, it barely ran. after maybe a half an hour of barely idling it levelled out and is now (4 days later) running ok, but still idling high and hesitating upon acceleration. i understand doing that clears all the error codes, but what does it mean. does that cancel out the jumped belt theory? i'll let everyone know if the amm/o2 sensor does the trick tonight. thanks for all the great advice.
