craigslist is full of winners. found what would be a GREAT engine, only 80K miles, all seals replaced, new head gasket, oil pan gasket, water pump, timing belt, repainted, etc etc etc for $500 about an hour away. setup an appt to pick it up saturday morning...he's not there. i call, he says something came up with his family. i thanked him for calling to let me know before i left. just kidding. he said i could set something up later so i left it at that to talk it out with my truck owning dad. next time we spoke, he said he'd call back to let me know if the day and time i gave him would work. no call. i called three times today with no answer. sigh. i'm still keeping my fingers crossed, but preparing to start the search again
