It's new engine time - What cars to source for B230FT L block Turbo head?

It's time to replace my blown B230FT of unknown vintage. Has a blown HG and probable cracked block. I've wanted another engine for years.

Anyway, I can't afford to replace every seal and sensor on it at this point, so I'm only going to fix what's obviously broken, plus the Timing Belt, Engine Mounts, and Intake Manifold Gasket.

I checked the PnP online inventory and there are 3 places within a couple-fifty miles. I plan to put the engine in the trunk of my 244, inside a plastic tub.

I plan to do a wood-dowel rod-bearing test and a compression test before pulling the engine. Are there any other tests I can do?

I want an L-Block with oil squirters and 13mm rods, which means 93 or later B230FT's.

Can I source one from a 940T? From a 240T? They made 940's up until 98 from what I understand.

I appreciate some help, I plan to go pull it next week, and install if Friday.

William
