There's one "98" 940 listed in PickNPull's Inventory, but that may be a typo. I've seen that some 940's were made that late, but I'll believe it when I see it.
I guess I'm just looking for a list of cars that have L-blocks and turbo-heads all in one piece already.
There's apparently a shape difference in NA pistons vs turbo pistons that makes for 9.(5?) vs. 8.7:1 Compression. That would be for a performance engine though, and I'm not building one at the moment.
I'm not sure if the larger rods were only for turbos, I think it was an evolution for the entire engine line, but I could be wrong. The NA engines lack the sodium filled exhaust valves, and I'd rather keep the special valves. ...I think. If it came down to it, I would be willing to take an NA engine over no engine, and slap my turbo on it. I would be uncertain about its durability though.
