Jean--you don't say whether this car was new when you bought it from the dealer. Most of the failed engines on newer model cars are from people who lease them. Leasee's, or whatever you want to call them, are notorious for not servicing the cars they lease. Why should they? The car is going back to the dealer, so why put Mobil 1 in the engine and tranny that costs $4+ a quart and change it out every six months when recycled Aero or "run-it-till-it-drops" will do? Most lease cars are only held for about two or three years, many without an oil change in that time. If that's who the previous owner was, it's a good bet that's why the engine failed.
