Perhaps the term is technically incorrect BUT we've seen one of these newer Volvo motors with oil related failure recently too. It was a lease return car bought at an auction with less than 50K miles and it didn't seize but stopped running while being driven on the freeway. Its oiling system was so bad from neglect that a cam journal seized, thus no compression.
It takes alot to seize an engine, like usually no oil but a neglected, oil sludged engine eventually loses oiling to critical components because any flowing oil can't flow through the clogged oiling lines. Sometimes the oil sump screens clog from all the sludge sticking to it and good oil can't get sucked into the pump anymore. I've seen it several times over the years.
Moral of the story? Change your oil more frequently as that's ALOT cheaper than repairing/replacing an engine today.
