Thanks for the reply. I replaced the battery a week ago prior to bringing it back from Morgantown, but I suppose it could have drained down somehow. I don't know how long he cranked on it before it started making the noise.

Good to hear the news on the clearance issue. When he gets the car back to the apt I'll have him crank it over the phone and see if it sounds as you describe.
