The SU manifolds have a bypass tube that connects the two sides. If a throttle is closed on one carb it can pull through that bypass tube and the engine won't completely miss on those two cylinders.

On my Weber manifolds each individual cylinder is isolated from all the others - so it is very dificult to get them all doing the same thing at idle.
