I'm trying to get my '67 122 started after several years of being parked. The problems I've seen so far are: 1) brake lights don't work, 2) headlights don't work, but tail lights and parking lights do. New headlight doesn, correct the problem, and neither does cleaning up the grounds. Since neither works, I assume it's a problem with something common to both. Where should I loook next? 3) the engine won't start (just a small problem). I've change oil, drained and replaced the gas, checked and gapped points, replaced plugs and there's power to the plugs and coil. When I try to start it I gat a pop - a backfire. I've changed ignition timing - advancing and retarding - and still no start. My wife says it smells like it's flooded, but changing the height of the needle seats doesn't help. Could the problem be a damaged timing gear - or is there something more likely that I'm overlooking. My problem is that a neighbor has turned me in for having two non-licensed cars (the other is a '71 142 that I can get up in a couple of hours), so I'm sort of under-the gun for time.
I can really use any help you can give.
Thanks in advance,
Jim Hampton
