Been there, done that! The radiators on the 740's and other models I assume have a close to 100% failure rate over time. Our 91 740 blew a radiator on vacation 400 miles from home and, in the process, allowed antifreeze to get into the AT fluid eventually ruining the tranny as well to the tune of $1000. not counting the radiator replacement cost and all the hassles being miles from home. I knew of the plastic radiator problems but decided to push my luck and lost big time $$wise. There isn't any way to repair this that will be reliable and if it's falling apart in one area, it's on burrowed time. If you're going to keep the car, invest in a nice metal Nissens radiator or similiar.
