so are they ALL prone to water leaks?

ALL older cars develop leaks. I've personally experienced Chevy leaks, VW leaks, Jeep leaks, Nissan leaks, and yes Volvo leaks. That '83 is a 20 year old car now and seals harden and shrink with age.

The only thing to to is seal the leak before it causes damage or seal the leak and fix the damage afterward. Run, don't walk to the nearest Autozone. Get a tube of window stop leak and seal those leaky window seals before old man winter settles in.

Sorry to be a downer but that's about the size of it.
