Bulb Failure Sensor? 900 1995

The bulb out sensor (not a relay, yet uses two or three passive relays inside) is parked atop the fuse and relay box behind the ash tray at the bottom of the center 700/900 series dash console.

The fuse and relay box in 2023 can present some issues with not easily seen corrosion at the bonded contact between say fuse or relay and the receptacle these fit into.

So take the ashtray tray and housing out and you will see it.

And here:

For a nearly 40 year owld 940, causes may be dirty bulb connector (remove socket, alcohol and a nylon bottle brush). Merely removing / replacing the bulbs renews the bonded contact between bulb base contacts and the bulb holder.

Unrelated as to cause, dirt connects inside the light housing inside the lens and can dim exterior lighting brightness.

Pulling and replacing the bulb failure may do the same and restore a good connection at the bulb out sensor holder. May be all you need to do.

The fuse and relay box can become a problem with age if not maintained. DeoxIT-D is you pal and any low volt or signal harness connector.
