As I mentioned this car is a "spare" that gets pressed into service when one of the other Volvos needs attention. I had the luxury of working on it as time allowed.
I removed the exhaust system from the car and was able to break the 10 year fusion between the cat pipe and the first muffler without destroying either of them.
I took the head pipe/cat pipe combo to my machinist and they removed the remains of the oxygen sensor. I believe it was a combo of heat and an easy out to remove it. The charge was $20.
After dressing up the edge of the inlet on the muffler it all went back on the car with a new oxygen sensor; good to go.
Thanks for everyone's input.
