My gas mileage went up greatly when I replaced the exhaust system, including catalytic converter. They deteriorate slowly, blow bits into rear muffler, causing poor exhaust flow. If your cat is old/original to car (mine was original, passed E-check long ago), you might want to check it. Doubt that reduced gas mileage is electrical in nature.
