I have 1978 242 GT with 260,000 plus. Bosch "K" system.
Bought it in 1978 from service manager of Volvo dealer with 8,000 miles for about $8,000 out the door.
First year hit a deer. Had to replace a left fender, hood and grill. Was able to still drive it back round to So. CA. from Bridgeport CA VIA Tahoe CA. Just tied the hood down, pulled the radiator back in place and drove. Looked like H... but conviced me that the hood folds up to protect the occupants.
Two years later, because of the So. Ca sunshine. Had entire car repainted because the clear peeled all over. I got smart and had Imron urethane paint put on it with the stripes removed for about 500.00. That paint job has since died and is peeling so I keep it inside. I have retired so its not a daily now. Just drive it to town once or twice a week.
All else is still original except the clutch and reupholstered front seats complete with the red stripe.
Need to change out the front struts bacause getting some noise when I drive it around in the back yard. May need some bushings too! Alignment still good, the tires wear even.
Engine runs good and uses less oil than any of my other three Volvos between oil changes.
Then again only the '86 is about equal. Pushing 280,000 mi. $ 13,000 in '87 27,000 mi.
The '91 has about 216,000. $3,000 in '06 182,000 really clean with records.
The '84 only has about 155,000. $700.00 in '04 112,000mi. Insurance salvage from a good friend. Was totaled out because of only a left rear door damage. Found one for $ 40.00 at Pick & Pull same color! Straighten the pan in front of the rear wheel well. All is good and runs great.
I buy only stick shifts and only 240's
Volvo's are good deals if you are lucky and patient!
