In an effort to make a properly functioning SU HS6 setup I cleaned two working identical sets of carbs, purchased a rebuild kit, and matched the best parts from the sets to (in theory) create a better pair of carbs. I used the Haynes manual and ZTherapy video to assist me. The problem I encountered is a car that idles far to fast. Even when I turn in the jet screws to the leanest setting and fully turn out the idle screws, I'm still getting in the neighborhood of 2,000 rpm. Adjusting the fuel floats doesn't help much either. The needles are standard KD. The pistons and linkages move freely. When I push up the rear carb piston when the car is off, sometimes it leaks and spits fuel. Switching from auto tranny fluid in the dashpots to 10w-30 oil doesn't help. I'm thinking that perhaps the IPD brand fuel pump (that supposedly moves fuel faster than the Pierburg) is causing the issue, but don't know for sure. Would a pressure regulator on the pump fix my issue or am I barking up the wrong tree? As always, any ideas would be most appreciated!
