...the swiss-cheese airbox routine is used by VWers who don't want to waste money on a cold air intake that doesn't make much difference on the old 1.8 Digifant engines but want the induction noise to sound like they've got it. Does nothing at all for performance, makes unnecessary noise, and causes the throttle plate (and airflow meter plate, if you're lucky) to freeze while driving during cold humid weather. Sounds like a good idea, right? Go figure... Next time you blow by a bunch of kids in a hopped-up Jetta that's mooing like a heifer in heat - that's probably why.
