Idles lows and dies 700 1987

This is after a head replacement.

The idle is rough and missing and dies. I just got a timing gun and am going to try to set the timing. I did line up the distributor in almost the same position. Moving the distributor has a little but slight effect.

I replaced the amm with a used one, it had been tampered with. I tried playing with the screw but no effect. I put on the old amm (all duct taped after I broke it while removing it from it's housing, the same)

I checked for vacuum leaks, there should not be any.

If I remove the amm wire, it limps into 1500rmp and does not miss.

Ohh, by mistake I over torqued the knock sensor. It was on pretty tight, manual says 8ftllbs, but it required some force to lossen the bolt.

quick question, the ETC sensor has a blue connector right?

The ETC sensor harness is some other color than black, perhaps blue. It is the same size and type of connector as those on the fuel injector harnesses. The ETC sensor is located closer toward the transmission than the coolant sensor for the dash gauge. The coolant-dash gauge sensor has a large harness connector with fat plugs, so don't mistake it for the ETC sensor.

Also don't mistake the ETC sensor connector for some cars that have a similar type connector going to a cold start injector on the bottom side of the intake manifold.

Did you set up the base idle speed and mixture yet? The procedure is in the FAQ. Also, Are you sure the timing belt is on correctly? Some other things to check are the throttle position switch and idle speed motor (also known as constant idle speed sytem) Make sure all fuel injection plugs are shiny clean, too, as well as all ground connections. There is one the engine at the intake manifold, one from the valve cover to the firewall, one each on the front inner fenders, lt & rt. These two must be bolted tight to a clean surface and must be shiny clean. use dielectric grease.

I fixed the harness and cleaned the ground contacts with acetone before putting them on.

Here's what I found with a timing gun.
At 1500 rpm timing is somewhat correct (around 12-10 dtdc)

But at idle it's all retarded (30ish deg) quite a bit and then dies.

I did open up the hall sensor and glued it back instead of rivots (before). I'm thinking it's not aligned percisely. I may have mucked it up.

I got a used distributor and plan to put that on tomorrow. As far the base idle I think it's a timing issue. TPS is checked, clicks right. I'll also replace the knock sensor with a used on. (I droped the original, it may be damaged)

      Thanks
