OK, so it is Iowa night-before-caucuses and I am sick of receiving polling calls. I decide to change the leaking valve cover gasket in my 940. It is 19 degrees in my garage but mercifully away from the phone. The cover comes off in about a minute; I replace the gasket; I start to re-torque the nuts to the specified 11 ft-lbs. Funny: it seems I am torquing more than I would expect and still no "click". Snap: the stud breaks off. It turns out that my Craftsman Microtorque wrench, marginal at low torques anyway, will simply not click at this torque in 19 degree weather. Next time I use the beam wrench. Lesson learned. At least I have about a quarter inch of 6mm stud sticking up so I can remove it tomorrow.
