When or should I change front and/or rear wheel bearings? 200

I have replaced all the wheel bearings on my '91 once in its 275k miles.

None of them failed suddenly. I had plenty of warning. The fronts got so they would not tighten to zero lash without being really tight. The rears got to where there was noticeable vertical play in the axle.

You need a fairly tall press to do the rears. A dremmel tool comes in really handy for cutting the lock ring far enough that you can crack it open with a hammer and chisel. The tricky part of doing the rears is that it is really tough to tell the inside of the bearing from the outside of the bearing by looking at it. If you put one in backwards, it will fail almost immediately. (DAMHIK)

P.S. When you jerk out the rear axles, sit down on the floor. If you pull from a squatting position, when it comes free you will end up on your butt with a greasy axle in your lap.
