Burning a quart every 1500-2000 miles isn't bad for any engine, particularly one with 234k. Are you sure you aren't losing some of that from leaks? Normally an engine isn't considered really bad until its using a quart every 500 miles or so.

Have you done a compression or a leakdown test?

If it was my car I'd enjoy driving it for many more miles....:)
