replace engine or car? 850 1996

I fully concur. Spend the ~$100 or whatever to have a leak-down test done and try to figure out what is wrong with your engine before you spend $x000s on a new engine or a replacement. Unless you're just tired of your car and want a new one that is.

You might be looking at a PCV problem too. Maybe it's just clogged enough to cause slight leaking in lots of places rather than one big leak in one place.

A mechanic might have some other ideas about how to discover what's causing the oil loss. Spend a little on diagnostics up front and you might be surprised with the results.
