Strut question, wisdom needed V70-XC70 1998

I am always game for doing my own maint. But what would I need to remove the front strut besides a good spring compressor and the tool to remove the top funny bolt(from IPD)? Invest in some 1/2 inch sockets? along with copious amounts of PB Blaster? I have no room to get an air compressor and hammer the bolts off.
I am afraid that my 3/8inch set of tools would not be able to get the bolts off. I have a terrible time just playing with my brakes :)

The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are a 95 854T and a 98 V70R :)
