timing belt replacemt - some questions 850 1993

I bought my belt from FCP. The plastic piece was inside the box. My car is a '97.

My understanding is that the plastic disk is intended to keep the tensioner from collapsing, if it fails. If that is true, it is kind of important. Check the archives or go look on the Volvospeed website.
