How else to clear Not Ready state? S70 1998

1998 S70 T5, 147K miles- I have cleared an OBD II code I got after disonnecting the battery, but the OBD II system still reads as "Not ready". Is there any thing I can do other than the 2-trip drive cycle routine to make it go into the ready state? I am having trouble finding enough traffic-free open road to do the drive sequences. I know of a local indy Volvo specialist. Is there any chance he'll be able to hook up and fix it electronically, or does it have to be the dealer?
