Tools: Sockets 6 point or 12?

Agreed, 12pt is easier for getting a socket onto a bolt if you're using a breaker bar instead of a ratchet. However with a ratchet - let's say 72 tooth - you'll still have intervals of 5 degrees by rotating the socket on the ratchet a click at a time, or by setting the socket on the bolt & lining the ratchet up to it. Given the corrosion problems I face, it's a no-brainer for me - but as always to each their own, use what works for you. The real key is QUALITY TOOLS! Made in China/Taiwan/etc = busted knuckles & rounded bolt heads, particularly with anything below 17-19mm.
