Excelent. You've found the problem.

That extra condenser is just an RFI suppressor. Modern radios usually do not need them, but it does not hurt.

You know you get 2 kinds of coils. One requires an external ballast resistor, the other has the resistor built in. The Volvo OEM one has it built in. Just in case you concider taking a coil off a different car... My '76 Mazda had the external ballast resistor mounted on the outside of the coil, very obvious to see. The purpose is to protect the coil in case the ignition is on without the engine running and the contact breaker is closed. Cheaper to make, but not as good. The resistor just eats up energy. As far as I know, the blue OEM coil is of very good quality.
