no start 1800

I would definitely start by replacing any old parts... including points, cap, and rotor. I've seen any one of those three cause intermittant problems, and the defects were not visable to the eye...

Granted, good chance it won't fix it, but even if it doesn't, its always good to have spare parts... And make absolutely certain that things to be grounded are well grounded (condenser), and nothing that should ground out isn't (Points spring and attached wires)...
