stereo replacement 240 gl

Stella, on the late, lamented Rumblegutz (my '88 245) I replaced the stock sound system with a $125 Blaupunkt cassette unit and a pair of 4" Blaupunkt speakers for about $35. Installation was a snap (but I'm an aerospace engineer/instrumentation engineer/gearhead and I recognize others may be daunted by what comes easily to me).

On Son of Gutz (the '92 245) last spring I plugged in a Pioneer CD player/FM unit and 4 JBL speakers (front and rear doors) for under $300. The Pioneer 4x45 watt amp is powerful enough for moderate sound levels. My music tastes are diverse - from classical to liturgical music to rock to country & bluegrass, and I don't need 1000 watts of thumping bass to appreciate my music! Bottom line is let your budget be your guide, and the good folks at Crutchfield are honest and helpful. I think for under $175 you should be able to get something quite pleasing to your ears!
