This is what I did last year with my '81 245, but I remember it wasn't really safe. There's a lot of voltage that potentially could leak out of that exposed terminal on the coil, correct? Doesn't one of the smaller wires transmit the signal to the coil to fire out the heavy duty voltage? I can't remember which of the two smaller wires does the trigger, though. I used to know this in my ancient VW bug days; did it all the time. Memory is fuzzy.
