Matt,
I'm working on the same theory of a Hemi-Cudda with hood scoop and a sixpack... more carb + more air = more power. I just want the ultimate sleeper, kind of like a 240 with a small V8 crammed in, except I want a Volvo engine under the hood. Of course Volvo-Penta, last time I checked, made some high performance straight six racing boat engines. I wonder if they develop more horsepower and would fit ;-)
I've been planning a bore-over, 4 barrel carb, sway bars, etc for years now. Things have always gotten in the way financially. My girlfriend found a body guy around here by accident, older guy who's motto is "Bondo NOT spoken here". His estimates work like this, get an estimate and I'll do my best to beat it by 25-50%. He only works in metal, my kind of guy. I want to know if he uses lead for the little dents?
As much as I love my 164, Sif needs more "WEE! factor". She's most happy on the way back from Cheyenne when the roads are open and she can cruise along at 90mph. She purrs like my kittens and zips through traffic with gusto. I swear I can hear her yelling "WEE!". Then again that could just be the wind whipping through the old door and window seals. LOL.
I've just broken 120000 on the mileage front, have far to go yet, maybe an Irv? I enjoy driving my 164 and have drooled over the ones in great condition. So one day I'll have to set her aside for a few months for the body work and paint job and redone seats. Aside from running rich right now she's running great. After the major body work / restore I want the engine worked on, bored over 40% or so, new 4 barrel carb, K&N filter, etc.
I know I'm looking at a chunk of cash, but there's not much I like out there new. I hate front wheel drive, have no great love for ABS, and fix computers all day long... I don't want a computer in my car unless I can work on it. I do like that new XC90 Volvo has, but since Volvo came under the F$%* banner I've been waiting for F$%* to mess things up. Of course since I've always been a Mopar guy when it came to the big 3, there's always a Viper.
I'll make the time to play with this scoop idea. Of course if it all works and the 164 rockets off the line I'll have to set aside some cash for the "High Performance Driving Awards" as my ex's uncle calls speeding tickets... either that or move to Montana :) Since necessity is the mother of invention, I'll have to work on a cloaking device ;-)
Hehe, of course most people that know me and know about the 164 think I'm insane.
My first car was an 84 Buick LeSabre someone had played with, I used to race 5.0 Mustang Cobras and win. I ended up killing the speedo gear and leaving it dead because I scared myself when I looked down and saw just how fast I was going!
