I think it's a cool idea. Maybe you could cobble one up cheaply as an experiment, out of plywood or hardboard?
Do you have a single air filter setup now? If so, maybe some dryer hose could be used to connect between filter housing and scoop.
If you've got that variable-tuned intake manifold, maybe you could find a way to adapt it for better performance. Make the short runners tip in a little sooner, maybe.
Have a little fun with that thing!
