Gear Shifter & the Overdrive Switch 200 1991

I've been reading the posting for gear shifters and nothing looks about right. I want to check the overdrive switch on the shifter, but haven't figured out the proper method for this automatic. Hayes has a detailed explanation for
a manual shifter but not an automatic. Anyone with experience out there
willing to share your experiences?

I've read about springs being lost and short wires that are hard to reconnect.
Should I cut my losses now and head to the dealer or just re-wire the solonid
directly?
