Just completed a timing belt change, new front seals; cam, crank and balancing shaft. Couldn't have done it without the BrickBoard! Cleaned everything including the oil trap and under the car. After some spirited driving, I'm down approximate 1/4 of a quart in 60 miles! Checked for oil leaks, including the area under the car at the transmission and the oil filter relocater. It has a new distribitor and o-rings. Absolutely no sign of any oil leaks anywhere except a little around the oil fill cap. I installed a new seal there also. I had hoped that changing the seals would stop the oil usage. Did a compression check; 150 to 155 lbs. across all four cylinders.
This is a '87 b-230ft with 188,000 miles. Pulled the hose from the inter-cooler to the turbo. There is some visable oil inside the hoses. The turbo shaft has a little play but no sign of the wheel hitting the housing. I'm running stock boost, at least I haven't changed it and the boost gauge only goes 1/3 of the way into the yellow area. When I first start the car, after sitting over night, there is no blue smoke. I believe that is a good sign that the valve seals are OK. After the car has warmed up there is no visable blue smoke until I floor it and the boost comes on. There isn't a cloud of blue smoke but it is visiable. Could that much oil be passing through the turbo?
Thoughts, comments and suggestions will be appreciated!
