O.K., I hear that.
I tried to extract the old threads using a Sears extractor -- two piece item with a cuttingbit and a collet which threads into the drilled out metal in a reverse direction. Must have gotten it off-center and jammed against the good threads.
Then I tried a reverse bit and it just reamed out the hole, smoothing off some good threads while leaving a little of the broken thread on the opposite wall.
Yeah, I could just ream through the top and place any old bolt/nut on there and get on with life. I happened to have this 1/4"-20 tap and figured I ask about tapping and get some practice at a new skill.
how is teaching going?
