Crankcase Ventilation problem? 700 1988

I have not checked compression because it's very cold outside, although there hasn't been any signifcant decrease in performance over the past 2000 miles. It still seems to pull my load up the really big hills around here. Is this, perhaps, the beginnings of ring failure? A compression check will be done when I have the rear main replaced.
