Auto or Manual for performance?

Road & Track:

745 Turbo manual tested 6/85: 0-60 8.5, 1/4 in 16.6

944 Turbo automatic tested 8/91: 0-60 8.9, 1/4 in 16.8

Not perfectly comparable because the heavier 944 has the more powerful motor, but interesting that they are that close. If you don't like shifting, 0.2 in the 1/4 isn't worth being miserable. Automatic 740s, BTW are much easier to find.
