Help! 91 - 940 turbo electrical problem

If the alternator was OK it probably won`t be now! NEVER disconnect the battery or alternator with the with engine running.
Two reasons:-
1 - The resulting voltage surge as the load is removed is very likely to ruin the alternator voltage regulator and/or diodes let alone the other electronic parts on the car.
2- Had the alternator been charging hard the battery gives off a flammable gas
which is easily ignited by a spark at the terminals. Believe me, you do not want a battery blowing up in your face, don`t ask me how about this!
Colin.
