Well, sorta...
from '80-'85, the 240-series cars were only badged with trim levels:
DL
GL
GLE ('81 & '82 only)
Bertone (262C)
GT ('80)
GLT
Turbo
...but internally, they were still known as 242, 244, & 245.
By '86, the Turbo and 242 (all trims) were dead.
The introduction of the 760 in 1983 was the first public badging of a Volvo to eliminate the 'last digit = doors' trend.
In '86, Volvo had 2 types of car 200 and 700. To keep them differentiated, Volvo numbered both types.
But internally, the standard nomenclature was kept through the 850 series, i.e. 945 was a 900 series 4-cyl wagon, and an 854 was an 850 series, 5 cylinder sedan.
