Around the mid-80s Volvo decided to drop the last digit denoting the number of doors from the model number, or at least from the badge. A 0 was substituted, so 242, 244 and 245 all became 240, etc. In internal documents and if I remember correctly the VIN you'll still find the old numbering scheme. So there really is no difference except for the badge itself.
