Re: what is the difference between 244 and 240 200 1986

Well, sorta...

from '80-'85, the 240-series cars were only badged with trim levels:

DL

GL

GLE ('81 & '82 only)

Bertone (262C)

GT ('80)

GLT

Turbo

...but internally, they were still known as 242, 244, & 245.

By '86, the Turbo and 242 (all trims) were dead.

The introduction of the 760 in 1983 was the first public badging of a Volvo to eliminate the 'last digit = doors' trend.

In '86, Volvo had 2 types of car 200 and 700. To keep them differentiated, Volvo numbered both types.

But internally, the standard nomenclature was kept through the 850 series, i.e. 945 was a 900 series 4-cyl wagon, and an 854 was an 850 series, 5 cylinder sedan.
