The work the mechanic originally did could be related despite his protests. Your car will store error codes which will give a clue as to the cause of a problem. Your mechanic should have read the code and if so ask him what it was? There should be a code stored now as result of the last incident, you can read this yourself, see the FAQ section for the procedure.
