Head semantics (531 Head Casting); Reply to Brad nr 2 ALL 75-98

Brad:

>Good to hear from you over here as well!

I had already looked at your informative write-up on the brickboard site, but it doesn't really discuss car year & model types of where to find which heads.

Ok.

The 53x series of heads simply enetered when the "three-digit" engines (I.e. the B200/230/250) engines came, i.e. 1985-.

> Philip has indicated that the 531 never made it to the US,

Probably so, AFAIK. At least via the oem channels...

(Until today we have sent a number of modified heads to the US, both 530 as well as 531 based heads.)

> so I'll probably have to go with the 530, which are fairly plentiful.

And it shouldn't really be any bad choice since the 530 heads is a good choice in many application, and correctly modified, they perform VERY well.

>The only reason I was prefering the 531 was for the more centrally located plug. Do you think that would make any noticeable difference from a detonation prevention standpoint on a 11:1 motor?

Yes.

Best Regards
