Hello Jim:
Yes, you will have to open the uppolstry to get at that cable. To do that you will have to cut the hogrings (metal loops that hold the uppolstry on). They are at the base of the backrest and hold the backrest cover together. To get at them recline your seat back as much as possible and cut them with a good heavy pair of wire cutters. There are more hogrings inside when you start to roll the seat cover up-- they are located at each pleat. To get the cable out you will need some small metric sockets (7 or 8mm if memory serves) and a flexible extension is really helpful.
After cutting the cable sheath back as described in the earlier message, adjust the position of the seatback to correspond with the good side (inside in your case). You can do this using the cable end or anything else you can stick in the gearbox.
When replacing the seatcover, use plastic cable ties instead of the hogrings.
If you run into any trouble, give me a holler!
It took me about 1.5 hours including buttoning everything up again.
