Could be a failing master cylinder (maybe the warning light thingy has also failed). It could be a frozen rear caliper. It could be a failed flex hose to the differential (the one feeding the rear PS caliper).
Diagnostics would help anser the question.
Doesn't sound like a bad diff. And those things almost never fail on the 240s.

Of the high idle? No. But a gummed up CIS motor (aka IAV) could.
