Re: Can I substitute a mechanical temp gauge? 200 1986

I faced the same problem 6 months ago. I was able to replace my temp compensation board, got it from Swedish Engineering for $38. My temp gauge now works great. I think replacing the board is easier and a better solution. The board is located behind the fuel/temp gauges. You must remove the back cover to get to it. Be sure to mark all wires before removing them so you can replace them correctly. I have been told you can fry your instrument cluster if you don't. Also be careful installing the board so you line up the small contacts without bending them. Swedish Engineering can probably walk you through the procedure if you need further help. I have also heard the Bentley manual has a good description, although I was able to do it without it.
