I have this same car but mine has 122k! 😀
So the b234f has some issues but you will want to find the source of that whine with a stephascope or screwdriver and ear.
Do the timing belt asap if there is no record on the last service also since it is a low millage car the belt may not have many miles on it but coiuld be old.
My option is to pull the balance belt off entirely , you don't need it. If you ever have a balance belt fail it will take out the timing belt. Been without mine for three Yeats now!
Also there is a defect in the oil pump bolt. Stock bolt likes to shear off get a hardened one while you are in there to replace it. Go to mcmastercarr.com
Clean flame trap under intake. Its there right next to something that likes to cut your hand ☺
I had one balance shaft bearing spinning and made a whine hence the reason I first took off the belt.
Look up the Volvo 740 UK FAQ site to get more details. Also IPD sells a european Haynes 740 manual that has this engine covered.
Also you want to be really careful compressing the timing belt tensioner, compress it to fast and it will leak. I think it should take 15 minutes of slow compression in a vise to be OK. Lost my first one ,$80 mistake.
Go high quality on the belt and bearings. Conitech, INA or Koyo
Ca! Seals like to leak in this engine. See flame trap!
Nice car!
